Let’s hear it for Cancer season 2022! That’s right, our celestial crab friends will be the topic of the eleventh instalment of our zodiac monthly series! If you were born between June 21^st and July 22^nd, this one’s for you.

In Greek Mythology, Cancer is associated with the crab from the story The Twelve Labours of Hercules. Hera sends the crab to distract Hercules while the hero is fighting the Hydra (a sea serpent). When the crab tries to kill Hercules, he then kicks it all the way to the stars. However, in another version, Hercules actually crushes the crab with a club, so Hera, who is a sworn enemy of the hero, places the crab in the sky for it’s efforts. Unfortunately, because the crab was not successful in it’s task, it was only placed in a region of the sky that has no bright stars. With that being said, you can find the Cancer constellation in the northern sky and it is the faintest of the twelve zodiac constellations with no stars shining brighter than fourth magnitude.

So far, it all sounds pretty negative, right? Well, it’s not. Cancer is a symbol of strength and tenacity. Despite the crab’s defeat in these stories the crab is still remembered as a powerful creature that should never be taken lightly. So, don’t fret, Cancer, you can thank your crabby constellation for those lovely traits!

And, being a crab, it’s only natural that your zodiac element would be water. Water is the nourisher of life. It falls from the sky as rain and creates streams, ponds, rivers, oceans and so on. It also nourishes soil and makes crops grow. But, too much water can create floods; too little, and there will be droughts. In astrology, water represents human emotions. And we all know, our emotions can be both nourishing and destructive. For Cancer, however, water gifts you with intuition, compassion, and more often than not, you can be extremely emotional, sentimental, and nostalgic by nature. Cancer, being the cardinal water sign, channels the water element through taking positive action. You have strong leadership skills, precisely because of your knack for working with your emotions rather than against them.

Just as the tides of the ocean, the moon also rules Cancer. Yes, Cancer’s ruling planet is the MOON! While not exactly a planet, the moon is a powerful force. The moon symbolizes the soul of the unconscious self of an individual. It is believed to be associated with femininity, fertility, emotions, maternity, family bonds, sensitivity, memory, and death. The nature of the Moon-ruled Cancer is very adaptable and has a generous dose of empathy. But, Cancers can become prone to indecisiveness at times due to your strong emotional feelings.
